South Africa faces a youth unemployment rate above 40%, leaving many young people feeling powerless and financially burdened. Uber OddJobs addresses this challenge by creating a platform that connects workers with short-term, local opportunities such as gardening, cleaning, pet care and more. The “Fetch Your Life” concept empowers users to take control of their livelihoods. Through the app, workers can browse available tasks nearby, choose which services to offer, and get paid quickly and securely. Employers can post jobs, schedule appointments, and review workers via a rating system, ensuring a reliable experience for both parties. Integrated with Uber’s ride-sharing network, the app also provides transportation to jobs, removing barriers to access. Safety is prioritised with secure identification passphrases and verified profiles for workers and employers. By combining on-demand work, seamless payments, and trusted transport, Uber OddJobs offers a practical, empowering solution to youth unemployment, giving young South Africans the ability to earn, gain experience, and regain independence in their daily lives.
