Project Description:
Sankofa Surf Club (SSC) is a collaborative, community led project aimed at nurturing young talent in Busua, Ghana. The brand identity represents their community, mission, and purpose. It reflects the vibrancy of the surfing community while also creating a strong foundation for future creative collaborations. The heart of the identity is the bespoke monogram. The interlocking form symbolizes the deep connections of the club and resembles the Adinkra symbol ‘Sankofa’, reminding us to look back and learn from our past. A circle of rope surrounds the logo, referencing fishing nets and the unity of the community. The typography is clean and modern. The color palette is vibrant and bold, and the primary colors are a nod to the red, gold, and green of the Ghana flag. In addition, a custom Asafo Flag was also designed and hand-sewn in collaboration with The Asafo Company. The second collaboration with Faherty Brand brought the identity to life through a collection of merchandise, souvenirs, and apparel. Every part of the logo and brand identity was intentionally designed to embody what the Sankofa Surf Club is all about – fusing Ghanaian heritage with the fun and excitement of surfing.
