Product Description:
A series of sculptural light objects exploring the interplay between illumination, form, and atmosphere. Defined by organic silhouettes and a quietly powerful presence, each piece is conceived as both functional lighting and spatial artwork. Emitting a soft, ambient glow, the works create moments of stillness while enhancing their surrounding environment. Each light sculpture is custom-made as a once-off or limited piece, emphasising individuality and material integrity. The collection balances solidity and lightness through restrained detailing, allowing form and illumination to speak with clarity. Designed to operate across interior and exterior contexts, the works adapt seamlessly to a range of architectural settings. Subtle variations in materiality, proportion, and finish ensure that no two pieces are identical, reinforcing their status as collectible objects rather than standardised products. The restrained palette and considered material expression allow the light itself to become the defining feature, shifting in tone and intensity throughout the day into night. Created by a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of material exploration and spatial design.

Product Innovation / Specification:
The collection is defined by a material-led approach that integrates sculptural form with atmospheric light performance. Each piece is engineered to balance durability with refinement, utilising robust core materials selected for both structural integrity and longevity across interior and exterior environments. Finishes are carefully developed to enhance tactile quality while remaining resistant to weathering and UV exposure. Light output is intentionally diffused and indirect, reducing glare and prioritising ambient illumination over functional intensity. This approach allows the objects to operate as low-level architectural lighting, contributing to spatial mood rather than primary illumination. Integrated LED components are selected for efficiency, consistency, and longevity, with consideration given to heat management and maintenance. The production process combines controlled fabrication with hand-finished detailing, allowing for subtle variation while maintaining technical precision. This enables each piece to exist as a unique object without compromising performance. The result is a series that bridges collectible design and functional lighting.

Product Sustainability Approach:
The collection is guided by a conscious, material-efficient approach to design and production. Each piece is developed using only what is necessary, minimising excess through careful planning and fabrication. Offcuts and residual materials are actively reintegrated into the production process, reducing waste while allowing for subtle variation across the works. High-quality materials are selected for durability and longevity, including UV-stable finishes and a strong structural body of rope, ensuring resilience across interior and exterior environments. The focus on robust construction supports extended life cycles and reduces the need for replacement. A circular approach is embedded within the practice. Existing pieces can be returned, where structural components are retained and reworked into new configurations or forms. This process extends the life of each object while allowing for continuous evolution through design. Low-energy LED components are utilised for efficiency and reduced environmental impact, supporting long-term, sustainable use.

Local and Regional Impacts of the Product:
The collection supports local creative and manufacturing ecosystems through a hands-on, small-scale production approach. Each piece is developed and fabricated using predominantly locally sourced materials and skills, with minimal reliance on imported components. Production engages both skilled artisans and specialised factory-based makers, sustaining a range of technical craft and fabrication practices. By prioritising local production, the work strengthens regional design identity through a context-driven approach to material and form. The pieces are designed to integrate naturally within architectural and landscape settings. Through ongoing production, the work contributes to job creation, skills development, and the continued growth of the regional design economy in South Africa.
