Product Description:
Mmeko is a modular furniture system that translates the idea of bond and partnership into form, function, and interaction. Inspired by Igbo cultural notions of marriage as mutual exchange and interdependence, the design explores interlocking elements that only achieve completeness through one another. Composed of a chair and stool system built from repeated steel sections, each piece occupies the void of the other—physically embodying the idea of entangled connection. The detachable backrest further extends this relationship, allowing components to transform and adapt, reinforcing flexibility within unity. At a local level, Mmeko introduces a new approach to culturally grounded furniture—one that moves beyond symbolism into lived experience, while addressing spatial efficiency and multi-functionality in contemporary Nigerian homes. Regionally, it proposes a shift toward systems-based design in African furniture, where meaning is embedded not in surface aesthetics, but in structure, interaction, and adaptability.
Product Innovation / Specification:
Specification. Structure: 25 × 25 (2.5) mm mild steel square hollow sections, welded frame Surface Finish: Liquid Spray Coating Top / Backrest: 20 mm resin/ recycled plastic, with recessed magnets. Additional cushion for added comfort. Connections: Combination of MIG welding, laser welding (primary structure) and bolted joints (detachable elements) Fabrication: Cutting, welding, grinding, finishing, and modular assembly.
Product Sustainability Approach:
Mmeko adopts a sustainability approach rooted in longevity, adaptability, and material responsibility. Constructed primarily from steel, the design leverages durability and full recyclability to extend product lifespan and reduce waste. Its modular, interlocking system allows for disassembly, repair, and reconfiguration, minimizing the need for complete replacement. By combining multiple functions within a single adaptable system, Mmeko reduces overall material consumption while responding to compact living conditions. The design also supports localized fabrication through its repetitive and efficient construction logic, strengthening regional production ecosystems and reducing transport-related impact. Ultimately, sustainability in Mmeko is not treated as an add-on, but as an inherent outcome of designing for long-term use, cultural relevance, and material efficiency.
Local and Regional Impacts of the Product:
Mmeko transforms the idea of partnership into a functional furniture system, creating culturally grounded, space-efficient objects that redefine how contemporary African design expresses identity, interaction, and everyday living. The design relies on: repetitive steel sections, straightforward fabrication logic. This means it can be: produced by local metal workers, adapted to different budgets and finishes and scaled without heavy industrial dependency. It aims to raise the standard of what locally designed furniture can be.

Profile Description:
I approach design as a way of thinking rather than a fixed discipline; an evolving language that translates ideas, emotions, and needs into tangible form. My work is rooted in the belief that design is the act of bringing order to chaos, shaping spaces and objects that are not only functional, but meaningful. Guided by empathy and storytelling, I create designs that reflect identity, respond to context, and improve everyday life. Whether working across art, architecture, or product design, I see each project as part of a larger conversation—one that connects people, materials, and culture.
