This comedy festival, born out of an agreement signed on April 8, 2025, between the Government of Benin, via the Agency for the Development of Arts and Culture (ADAC), and the Jokenation Group, organizer of Montreux Comedy, is the result of a strategic collaboration aimed at raising the standards of the African comedy scene. The Cotonou Comedy Festival aims to position Benin as the African benchmark for comedy, showcase Beninese and African talent, and promote the continent's comedy internationally. The event featured two days of masterclasses, a round table discussion dedicated to African comedy, three exceptional galas, and a veritable Village of Laughter.

Local and Regional Impacts of the Project:
More than 4,500 festival-goers and 45 artists from Africa and around the world took part in the various activities. The three galas, from the opening night at the Dôme du Sofitel Cotonou Marina to the "Mi Kwabo" gala and the "Welcome Black" gala in the red room of the Palais des Congres, were sold out. Thanks to its completely free and open format, the Village du Rire not only guaranteed access to comedy for a very wide Beninese audience, but also showcased young humoristes.
