AIDA Awards Categories
AIDA awards will focus on four design disciplines, from Spatial Design (Architecture and Interior Design) that shape our built environment, to Product Design that enhances everyday life through functional innovation. We honor Communication Design for its role in communication and digital experience, and Fashion Design for its powerful expression of identity, culture, and sustainability. Each category highlights creativity and reflects Africa’s unique voice in global design.
The Africa International Design Awards (AIDA) is a pioneering design advocacy platform that recognises and celebrates both African designers and international designers whose work is deeply rooted in Africa, creating innovative solutions to address the unique challenges faced by African communities.
AIDA Awards serves as an international stage to celebrate African designers while fostering a global conversation about Africa’s role in shaping the future of design. By highlighting innovative solutions for the continent’s diverse challenges, AIDA Awards aims to spark conversations, inspire change, and increase international collaboration.

@Juliet Kavishe Eligibility
The Africa International Design Awards are open to anyone aged 18 and above, regardless of country of residence. Applicants living outside Africa should either be of African origin or submit projects that have been developed or realised in Africa. All submissions must demonstrate a clear and meaningful connection to the continent.
Submission Details
Entries may be submitted as conceptual designs, in-progress work, or launched products. The only requirement is that the product must be no more than five years old at the time of submission.
Submissions should include high-quality images showcasing the product from multiple angles — front, back, side, and detail views — as well as contextual images showing the product in use or within its intended environment.
Please also provide design development materials, such as sketches, technical drawings, 3D renderings, or mood boards, that reflect the creative process and concept behind the product.
If the project involves a reworked or upcycled product, include clear before-and-after images to highlight the transformation. For product series or collections, a group overview image is recommended to showcase the complete vision.
Entries can be submitted by companies, independent designers, or students.
The programme is structured around multiple rounds of voting, during which the jury selects the winners across both Professional and Student categories. Each project is evaluated on its own merit, with particular recognition given to the most pioneering and forward-thinking designs — those that distinguish themselves through strong concepts, meaningful innovation, sustainability initiatives, and compelling design narratives. The criteria are published here (we need to add the link).
