Reform Studio is an international award-winning lifestyle brand of Egyptian origin, founded with the vision of combining innovation with heritage. Our brand stands at the intersection of sustainability and luxury, reshaping how we perceive waste in design. Reform Studio is committed to redefining sustainable luxury, merging elegant craftsmanship with eco-conscious practices.
Reform Studio was founded by Hend Riad and Mariam Hazem in 2012, driven by their passion for change following the 2011 revolution in Egypt. Eager to make a difference in their community and environment, they sought to address critical issues through innovative design. This vision led to the creation of Plastex—a pioneering fabric made from discarded plastic bags interwoven with cotton threads.
Believing that design should enhance quality of life, they developed Plastex as a response to Egypt’s growing waste problem, where millions of plastic bags contribute to environmental degradation. Tested for durability by the National Research Center, Plastex transforms waste into opportunity, extending the life cycle of materials from minutes to years. This innovative material forms the foundation of Reform’s collection of premium fashion accessories, furniture, and home goods, all crafted to seamlessly blend eco-friendliness with refined artistry.
Grounded in a profound respect for Egyptian tradition, Reform Studio revitalises the ancient craft of looming while making significant strides in social and environmental responsibility. By training underprivileged women in weaving techniques, Reform not only empowers them to achieve financial independence but also helps strengthen local communities. This commitment to social impact is integral to the brand’s ethos, combining economic empowerment with the revival of sustainable practices in the weaving industry, ultimately contributing to environmental preservation and cultural heritage
