Mitiku Woldesenbet Gebremichale is a seasoned architect and urban designer with over 18 years of diverse experience in sustainable built environments. His expertise spans green architecture, cost-efficient design, modern project management, and green urban development, with a strong focus on enhancing cities and communities across Africa, Asia, and the Arab regions.
Holding MSc in Urban Design and Sustainable Development from Addis Ababa University (2014), and BSc in Architecture and Urban Planning from Unity University College (2007), Mitiku further honed his skills through specialized training in cost-efficient designs and Modern project management by GIZ-Ethiopia (2009). His early career saw him leading high-impact projects—including hotels, resorts, mixed-use buildings, and commercial malls—across Ethiopia.
Mitiku’s international trajectory took shape during his eight-year tenure at UN-Habitat Headquarters in Nairobi, where he contributed to the Urban Planning and Mobility Units, driving sustainable urban development initiatives. He has trained over 5,000 professionals, including private sector consultants, government officials, and students, while working on projects in Kenya, Rwanda, Cameroon, Tanzania, UAE, Mongolia, Malaysia, and China. His work extended to refugee settlements and slum upgrading programs, improving urban living conditions in cities like Nairobi, Bamenda, and Mwanza.
Beyond UN-Habitat, Mitiku has consulted for global institutions such as the World Resources Institute (WRI), shaping sustainable urban projects in Addis Ababa and Nairobi. A published author has co-authored works like “The City at Eyes Level”(2019), exploring urban built environments, green spaces, and community engagement in sustainable development.
