Noukpo Houndeffo

Atelier Houndeffo, Architecture, Arts & Métiers - AHAAM / Co-founder and Principal

Noukpo Jean-Paul HOUNDEFFO Pablo, a Beninese architect-designer with international influences, graduated in 2012 from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble (ENSAG) in France. He completed his final project there as part of the Master’s program Aedification – Large Territories – Cities, focusing on the theme of the African metropolis, with Ouagadougou as a case study. He is notably a member of the National Order of Architects and Urban Planners of Benin.

Before his studies in architecture, he gained solid experience in African earthen construction techniques. From an early stage, he worked for private clients not only in Benin but also in Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire. His work brings the tradition of African architecture into the modern age. The architect emphasises an open and ongoing dialogue among all project stakeholders, aiming to fulfil the client’s desires while respecting functionality, aesthetics, and — equally important — the client’s budget.

In addition to holding a degree in Wood Construction in Building, he founded and has directed Atelier Houndeffo architecture-arts & métiers since 2013.

Drawing inspiration from his environment, the designer engages in numerous collaborations with professionals in the construction industry and artists from diverse practices and cultures. “It is time for the continent to recognize the potential embedded in its culture, and for the built environment to serve as a laboratory where practitioners come together to define ONE architecture.”
